The next tourist attraction on our list is Transfăgărășanul, one of the most spectacular roads in Romania. A lesser known thing about Salina Ocnele Mari is that it is home to the largest salt park in the country, which has several attractions and recreational areas. It includes a church, a museum, a restaurant, a souvenir shop, a wine cellar, a soccer field, a basketball court, a tennis court, a pool table, adult karting, children’s playgrounds (children’s minigolf, air hockey, children’s karting).

The Vâlcean Village Museum is an open-air ethnographic museum and includes almost 80 architectural constructions and around 12,000 museum pieces. Everything is organized in the open air in the form of a village with households specific to the Valcan areas, from the school, church, town hall or inn, to the workshops of the craftsmen and the homes of the peasants. Also, here you can admire numerous examples of folk art. Among the tourist attractions here, we have: Cula Bujorenilor, Bogdan’s Inn, the schools of Cacova (Stoenești) from the 20th century, the wooden Church where liturgies are still celebrated on major holidays, as well as fountains and gates specific to the area.

If you are passionate about legends and history, Poenari Fortress is the perfect place for you. This medieval castle located on a mountain top was associated with the legend of Vlad the Impaler (it was his secondary residence, being built as a fortress post against the Ottomans) and will offer you a magnificent view but take into account that you will have to climb no less than 1480 steps to reach the top in the middle of the citadel. The main church was renovated and expanded in the 19th century and the architecture of the church is typical for this area, with a simple but elegant exterior in the Brancove architectural style. Inside, you will be greeted by an atmosphere of silence and prayer, and the icons and ancient frescoes will surely win you over. Also here, there is a small waterfall, which adds a beautiful and relaxing natural touch to the landscape of the monastery. Moreover, nearby is the Church of the Healing Springs whose water is said to be healing.
